Please Make Us Happy, or Protagonismo!
Burvil Hoist
Theater, 60 minutes
Philly Fringe
Lecoq-trained at the London International School of Performing Arts, Burvil Hoist drops you into the subterranean world of an office under the nine hole where human contact is obtuse and Bacchanalia rages outside the only window. A raucous assembly of theatrical fabricators, Burvil Hoist does the lifting for you!
In 2008, while studying at the London International School of Performing Arts, the five members of Burvil Hoist merged their diverse skills into a company. With interests in improv, puppets, visual art, music, dance, and all things generally absurd, they relocated to Newport, RI in 2009 to create Please Make Us Happy for the Philly Fringe and a Rhode Island tour. Here they became a proud recipient of a 2009 Rhode Island State Council on the Arts Project Grant. Forgoing the traditional model of actor-director-writer, Burvil Hoist creates in a collaborative setting, where every aspect of play creation is shared by the entire group, with a product that leaves audiences positively slack-jawed with its playfulness and unexpected outcomes.
