The Power Of Magic: An International Commedia for Everyone
OMBELICO Mask Ensemble
Theater, 60 minutes
Philly Fringe
We’re bringing together actors from four different countries who speak in their mother tongues, all while performing a highly physical improv/theater hybrid. Come see Arlecchino, Pantalone, Dottore, and all the rest in this full-throttle Commedia dell’Arte, a Cirque-meets-Shakespeare theatrical spectacle. There’s only one word to describe this family friendly show: ZannTastic!!
OMBELICO (pronounced “ohm-bay-LEE-co”) Mask Ensemble brings outrageously fun theater and spectacle to outdoor spaces in Philadelphia, through the physically raucous style of Commedia dell’Arte. While we keep a faithful eye to the past, we hope to reinvigorate Commedia and explore its relevance for a modern audience. Most of all we strive for laughter and joy for audience and actor alike. OMBELICO was founded in 2007 by Brendon Gawel, who serves as co-artistic director with John Bellomo. The Power of Magic marks our third production following last year’s double feature Two Face Commedia and 2007’s 50 Ways to Kill Your Lover: A Romeo & Juliet Comedy.
